Bowflex Dumbbells Review

Time for a review of the Bowflex Dumbbells . . .

With the Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells and Bowflex SelectTech 1090 dumbbells, you may have found the perfect solution to strength training at home.  These adjustable dumbbells offer cutting-edge technology that makes working out with free weights fast and convenient.

With just a simple turn of the dial, you can change the weights that you are using. Say goodbye to a cluttered room full of bars and plates all over the floor!

How does it work? Basically, each dumbbell comes with a base full of plates, and a rectangular bar. When you want to increase or decrease the level of resistance, you rotate the dials at the end of the handle to your desired weight.

What happens next is pure simplicity. By means of a secure, innovative locking mechanism,  the tumblers lock in the amount of weight that you wish to lift.

You don't need to worry when you switch to another weight because the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells are designed to ensure that the plates fit back into the base in their proper place, allowing for a seamless transition to another series of weights.

There are currently two different sets of Bowflex dumbbells available. Let's take a look at both of them.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells offer resistance from 5 pounds up to 52.5 pounds of weight in 2.5-pound increments.  Just turn the dial to your preferred weight and you can start working out.

There are 15 weight settings to choose from, meaning that you are essentially condensing 30 sets of separate dumbbells into just two. You will save on space, money, and time.

Each dumbbell measures 15.75 x 8 x 9 inches (L x W x H) and weighs 52.5 pounds.  The stand measures 27.75 x 20.5 x 24.5 (L x W x H.)

Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Dumbbells

If you want more intense weight training, consider the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Dumbbells. These adjustable dumbells offer up to 17 weight settings--it would take a full 34 separate dumbells to match them.

With a spin of the dial, you can change the level of resistance from 10 pounds, up to 90 pounds, in 5-pound increments.

The advantage of these heavier Bowflex dumbbells is that you can perform a greater range of exercises. You can do bench presses and pec flys, back exercises such as rows, shoulder presses, bicep curls, tricep extensions, as well as heavier work such as squats, deadlifts, and shoulder shrugs.

Each SelectTech 1090 dumbbell measures 17.5 x 10 x 10 inches (L x W x H) and weighs 90 pounds.  The stand measures 27.75 x 20.5 x 24.5 (L x W x H.)

All Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells are covered by a 2-year limited warranty on all parts, a 5-year warranty on the plates and 1-year warranty on labor. The stands are backed by an impressive 30-year warranty.

Both of these Bowflex dumbbells also include a workout DVD, “Secrets of the 4 Step Rep.” The DVD provides instruction on over 30 exercises with over 80 variations, to help you get the most out of your adjustable weights.

Consumers rate both of these Bowflex products highly, praising the durable design, long-term value, and ease of use. If you are seeking a high quality set of adjustable dumbbells, these are definitely worth serious consideration.
