Concept 2 Rowing Machine Review

Let's take a look at the Concept 2 Rowing Machine . . .

Rowing machines have been considered not only for sports training but for keeping fit as well as they give your body a total workout from head to toe.  And some of the best machines on the market are the Concept2 indoor rowers. They are constructed of top quality components, are dependable, and will definitely give you good service for every dollar spent.

Concept 2 rowing machines for the home market come in two models: Model D and Model E.  Both models have a flywheel design that reduces noise and maximizes the easy and sort of effortless feel of rowing on water, plus a spiral damper that gives you the option of experiencing a sleek, fast ride or a slow, heavy boat.

Model D

The Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine has a PM3 performance monitor that allows you to accurately check your distance, speed, pace, and calories.  The monitor also offers a menu operation that gives easy access to a list of features including preset and favorite workouts, previous performance or pace boat, FISH games, animated rowers that will teach you techniques, and multiple language options.

Likewise, it has five display options for rowers: all data, force curve, rowing with a pace boat, bar chart, and large print.

In terms of design, the Model D has an ergonomic handle that promotes natural arm and hand position, an aluminum rail capped with a stainless-steel track for smooth movement of the seat and Flexfoot footrests that adjust for fast and easy sizing.  The monitor arm pivots for storage and its height can be adjusted as well as its angle for easy viewing. The chain is made of high quality steel with partially enclosed housing.  It has aluminum front legs and steel rear frame.

Model E

If you would like to consider a higher seat than what the Model D offers at 14", then try the Concept2 Model E Indoor Rowing Machine. It sits 20" above ground, which is about the same height as the usual dining chair and is ideal for those having problems with stability and mobility.

The monitor that comes with the Model E is the PM4 which not only tracks your performance data but it also includes a chest belt heart rate transmitter that is compatible with the Suunto heart rate technology.  It is an automatic performance monitor that turns on as you starts to row, immediately gives feedback and at the same time recharging its battery.

As in a PM3 performance monitor, the PM4 also has five display options: all data, force curve, rowing with a pace boat, bar chart and large print.  This new version of the monitor is more high tech than the others.  It has a removable log card that stores workout data and personal preferences and has USB interface.  The increased memory capacity will allow for future expansion and features.

In Model E, the monitor arm is rigidly fixed but longer, to remain within easy reach of the user; the viewing angle can be adjusted as well.  A one-piece leg design of welded steel provides stability and sturdiness.  It has a nickel-plated chain for low-maintenance and is fully enclosed for a cleaner look.

Durability is assured as its frame is powder-coated and sealed with a clear top coat.  There are also Flexfoot footrests for quick and easy sizing.

Comparison between Model D and Model E Rowers

The Concept 2 Rowing machine Model D weighs 57 lbs, while Model E is slightly heavier at 65 lbs.  Both models have a user limit of 500 lbs.

Each rower requires a space of 8' x 2' when assembled and 9' x 4' area when used.

Both models have compact storage features as you need only a storage space of 25" x 33" x 54.5" for the rower.

Although the Concept 2 rowing machine Model D comes with the PM3 performance monitor, it can also accommodate the PM4 monitor if you prefer it, but you have to get one for an extra cost.

Using the tools and guided by the instruction manual that comes with it, both the Model D and E can be easily assembled.

With either Concept 2 rowing machine, you get an optimum exercise tool: easy on the knees and ankles but great for legs, arms, chest, back and abdominals.  And with the rhythmic nature of rowing, it also serves as an excellent stress reliever.

You don’t have to be an Olympic athlete to get the best rowing experience. Try the Concept 2 indoor rower.
