Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer Review

The elliptical is one of the most popular forms of home fitness equipment on the market today, and the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer is definitely one of the most valuable models being sold. It is the entry-level model from the brand that is very affordable and compact.

It sells well under the $1,000 price point, but remains a high quality, durable machine with all the basic features needed for effective in-home training.

The Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer comes standard with a magnetic brake system that delivers a quiet operation that will not interfere too much with others in the household. It has a very stable and secure feeling for users up to 275 pounds, even though it is a compact design meant for space saving.

Combined, these basic design features make it an excellent selection for residential
settings.

While you will not find an overwhelming array of functional features on this model, it does offer everything most people will need to work up a sweat and burn off excess calories right in their own living room.

Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer - Review

There are 8 workout options including the manual mode and 16 levels of resistance to ensure you are consistently challenged even as your body gets stronger. The resistance levels are mechanically controlled so you do not have to stop your workout when you want to increase the intensity.

The pedals move forward as well as backward and are designed to limit the rise in the heel that is common with most elliptical machines, though most users can still expect some rise to occur.

The Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer comes with a fixed 18-inch stride length that is not adjustable. This is suitable for most heights, but some users may want a 20-inch stride to comfortably hit their full stride.

Heart rate sensors are built into handgrips situated right in front of the body so they are very easy to grab without interfering with the workout. There is also a water bottle holder to ensure there are no excuses to get off the machine mid-workout.

This model also comes with a nice sized LCD console that is fairly easy to read. Later model Schwinn elliptical machines do offer a backlit console that is easier to read, but the one on this model is satisfactory for most home users with good lighting. It does give detailed feedback on each workout, including all the basics such as calories burned, speed, time, distance, and a variety of other options.

All of that together equals out to a very durable, effective piece of home fitness equipment that has more than satisfied hundreds of users over the years.

If there is one flaw, it might be that there is no option for battery power. You have to use an AC plug-in, which means you have a cord stretched across the floor. For most users, this is a problem that can easily be worked around by selective placement. Given the superior performance of the Schwinn 430 elliptical when compared to other models in this price range, this is a small flaw to work around.

The Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer also comes with a decent warranty package to ensure you are protected in case of defects: 15 years on frame, 2 years on parts, 1 year on electronics, and 3 months for labor.
