Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer Reviews

The Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer is the mid-priced elliptical machine from Sole Treadmills, a leading manufacturer of cardio exercise equipment.

This Sole elliptical features a 20-inch stride length, a benefit to taller users who often find themselves uncomfortable on ellipticals with shorter strides.

It has a 25 lb. flywheel, heavier than flywheels on other machines in the same price range. This heavy-duty component contributes toward smoother, sturdier pedaling.

With the newest edition of the E35, you also get 20 resistance levels and 8 workout programs, including one custom program.

The warranty is of special note. Lifetime coverage is provided on the frame, parts and electronics are covered for 5 years, and in-home labor service is for 2 years. This is a particularly strong warranty that demonstrates Sole's confidence in the quality of their manufacture. (Offering a strong warranty on a poorly made machine would only result in them losing money on repair calls.)

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer - Reviews Summary

Overall, the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer scores high marks from professional reviewers and users.

Critics across the board praise Sole's strong warranty coverage, remarking that typically you would find such a comprehensive warranty only on a much more expensive elliptical machine. Lifetime coverage on the frame, five years on parts and electronics, and two years' labor really reduces much of the risk in purchasing this elliptical.

The 20-inch stride length is also a big mark in this machine's favor. This longer stride (18 inches is common on other models) will comfortably accommodate taller individuals.

Reviewers also liked the sturdiness of the machine and the smoothness of the pedaling motion.

In regard to criticisms: users noted that the elliptical is very heavy (shipping weight of 225 lbs.) and could be challenging to transport into whatever area you've set aside for it. It would be useful to have 3-4 people to help you out (or simply pay the delivery company the extra fee to bring it inside).

Assembly also proved time-consuming for some users, although users remarked that the instruction manual is clearly written. It just takes several hours to put together.

What Our Review Sources Say

Amazon.com:

As of February 5, 2009, the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer holds a 4 star-rating from 7 consumers on Amazon.com.

Users comment that the E35 is a great value for its price range, remarking that the Sole feels nearly as smooth and durable as health-club quality machines. They also like the wireless chest strap monitor and the machine's weight capacity of 375 pounds.

Criticisms came in for the difficulty of the resistance levels. One reviewer remarked that even pedaling at the lower levels of resistance was very strenuous.

TreadmillSensei.com:

This professional reviewer declared the Sole E35 the best buy for an elliptical under $1,500. He praised the attractive design, the heavy duty flywheel, and the articulating foot pedals. Final score was 4.5 out of 5 stars.

TreadmillDoctor.com:

The editors of this site (treadmill service specialists) rated the Sole E35 a solid value. They praised the drive system, but disliked the LCD display. However, they noted the good warranty and the company's reputation for standing behind their products.

Fitness-equipment-source.com:

This knowledgeable reviewer gave the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer a positive review. He highlighted the great warranty, the long stride length, and the foot pedals that adjust to various angles. He also liked the power incline feature, which enables you to escalate the intensity of your workout.

However, he mentioned that at 81 inches long, this elliptical machine consumes quite a bit of space, though the length of the machine is part of the reason why it provides such a stable ride.

Conclusion: The Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer appears to be a winner, with good value in its price range, smooth operation, durable materials and construction, and a solid warranty.
